Problem
Event photos arrive late, and imported booths overheat and fail.
What I built
A Ghanaian-built booth: CAD-designed wooden frame with ventilation, DSLR + iPad + instant printer, and the software to run it.
Result
Validated with 200+ guests at the UBORA Awards; 95%+ positive feedback.
Designed, built, and successfully deployed a modern AI-assisted photobooth for the Ghanaian events market; validated product with 200+ users at Ubora Awards; received 95%+ positive feedback on photo quality, speed, and user experience; generating interest from event organisers for commercial bookings
What went into it
- Ideated and researched the business opportunity by conducting 85+ market surveys to understand customer pain points, preferences, and willingness-to-pay; identified that event photos are often delayed and existing photobooths are unreliable, creating a strong market gap for a dependable Ghanaian-designed solution.
- Conceptualised GlamPhotoBooth's unique value proposition: cooling-optimised hardware, DSLR-quality photos, instant printing and digital sharing, and locally crafted wooden aesthetic; differentiated from imported photobooths through reliability and cultural relevance aligned with Ghanaian event preferences.
- Designed the complete booth prototype from scratch: detailed structural CAD plans for wooden frame incorporating ventilation systems, iPad/DSLR mounting, tripod integration, cable management, and modular assembly for portability and ease of transport to event venues.
- Built a fully functional prototype by partnering with local carpenters on sustainable materials and custom fabrication; fully integrated hardware (Canon DSLR, iPad, LumaBooth software, instant photo printer) with end-to-end software workflows ensuring photo capture, instant display, and professional-grade printing.
How I thought about it
I treated it as a systems problem: cooling, mounting, cabling, software and the print queue. The most important design decision was ventilation.
